Nurses & Neighbors

RNs and community concerns naturally overlap - community members are our patients, and as employees we share many of the environmental health concerns with our hospital's neighbors. Unfortunately at Saint John's we have another thing in common - the hospital administration has been unresponsive to both of our voices.  

Saint John's has been allowed to neglect construction mitigations¹ and ignore a sewage system that spews noxious fumes twice a week and has repeatedly spilled raw sewage onto our city streets.² Now the hospital wants to demolish an old building containing asbestos and lead³, and to pass an Amendment to the original agreement allowing them to renege on the parking provisions of the original plan.⁴ Is Saint John's a neighbor we can trust?

UPDATE!

Saint John's has been found in "constant violation" of sewage pretreatment standards by the City of Santa Monica, and, in a rare move, referred to the City Attorney due to it's long-term failure to correct the issue. Read the public citation.

Further, it has been revealed that the Santa Monica City Council has failed to annually review Saint John's Development Agreement - as required by law - for "years." Read about the issue.
